Southwestern Desert Mesquite Wood

This piece formed in the shape of the desert tortoise is hand-carved from a single log of mesquite. Proportionally, it is one of the more interesting with dynamics frozen in time. The Torti shell was stained a darker color than the base, and with the rusticated markings reflecting a life out in the wild. Torti #11 is one of my favorites.
